Setting the warp on a 90-year-old loom
This loom belonged to my grandmother. Setting the warp takes two of us a full afternoon, but the rhythm of it is the most peaceful part of the week. We're starting a run of indigo-dyed cotton runners — first time we're trying that yarn weight on this frame.

Our cooperative just earned the Fair Trade audit

New collection: Atlas mountain runners
Six new pieces just off the loom. The wool is from a flock we work with up in the Atlas, and the geometric pattern is one we've been refining for two years. Each runner is 80×220cm. Photos taken in our courtyard at sunset — the colors are very close to real.

Quick tip: photograph craft against unbleached linen
After photographing a few hundred ceramic pieces, the best background I've found is a piece of unbleached linen with side daylight from a north-facing window. Two days in our leather workshop in Fez
We took a few photos this week to show how a babouche is actually built — from cutting the pattern to the final stitch by hand. It's six steps and about 90 minutes per pair. The smell of vegetable-tanned leather is something photos can't capture. If you're ever in Fez, come visit.

DHL vs Aramex for small parcels to the US — recent experience?
We've been using DHL for years but the rates jumped 18% in March. Aramex quoted us 40% less for the same weight bracket, but I've heard customs clearance can be slower. Anyone shipping monthly to US buyers — what's working for you in 2026?

Visited Souk Semmarine yesterday — colors I can't unsee
Spent the morning wandering the dye souk in Marrakech. The skeins of wool drying on the rooftops, the way the sun catches the saffron piles — every corner is a photograph waiting to happen. Left with two kilos of natural indigo and a notebook full of sketches.

Mordanting wool with alum — ratios that actually work
Spent a year experimenting with alum-to-wool ratios for natural dyeing. Settled on 12% alum + 6% cream of tartar by dry weight of wool. Soak for 1 hour at 80°C, slow cool overnight. The extra cream of tartar makes a noticeable difference in lightfastness — especially with madder and weld.
